Rituparna sengupta, the reigning queen of Tollywood started her career in 1994, with her first film Swet Patharer Thala directed by Mr Pravat Roy the most eminent director of tollywood. In the film she played the teenage lead. That year the film got National Award in the category of the best Bengali film. After that there was no looking back . She became the undisputed heroine or queen of the Bengal Film Industry.

She became famous in all the commercial flicks: Moner Manush, Sangsar Sangram, Swami Kano Ashami, Sudhu Ekbar Balo, Swamir Adesh, Tumi Ele Tai, Swasurbari Zindabad, Aalo, Akrosh, Hungama, Chander Bari and many others.

She is almost a hundred films old and has worked with directors like Pravat Roy, Biresh Chetterjee, Swapan Saha, Haranath Chakraborty, Sanat Dutta, Sujit Guha, Chiranjit Chakraborty and other big directors.

Her career in parallel cinema started little later when Rituparno Ghosh, first gave her a break in the film Dahan, where she played a traumatized house wife. Her performance immensely spoke about her acting talent, which actually brought her the best reward in the film industry i.e.—The National Award for the Best Actress in Dahan. Another film that brought out my acting skills to the fullest was Paromitar Ek Din. Mrinal Sen complemented me by saying that my performance was very balanced."

Henceforth she worked with Rituparno Ghosh, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Aparna Sen, Sandip Ray, Tarun Majumder, Raja Sen, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Ashok Viswanathan and others.

Some of her famous films are: Dahan, Utsab, Paromitar Ekdin, Mandyo Meyer Upakhyan, Aalo, Devipakshya, Dwitiya Basanta, Byatikrami, Nishijapon, Sangshoy, Anuranann.

She has acted in lot of films of other languages of south and eastern regions.. Her releases are: Tarun Chetterjee’s Dandyo, Ashok Viswanathan’s Andhakarer Shabdo, Subhrojit Mitra’s Mon Amour, Subhas Sen’s Bouma Zindabad, Raj Basu’s Piyalir Password, Anjan Dutta's B.B.D. in Hindi . She has another 7-8 films on the floor at present.

Recently her foray in Mumbai film industry has created waves with Main Meri Patni aur Woh, she got lot of critical acclaim. Her second film Unns, which is a love story and now released all over India Gauri - The Unborn.

She has performed in abroad several times. Dance is Rituparna’s passion. She learnt classical dance from the very beginning. She has created her own dance troupe. She choreographs her own staff. Last few years she has given tribute to Tagore by performing his dance dramas. – She has choreographed Tagore’s dance in different way. Chandalika, Shyama, Shapmochon and recently Mayar Khela are her creations.

She has produced feature film Aalo and Bouma Zindabad. Her own production house Bhavna Aaj O Kaal has produced two television programmes and a make over programme for girls.

Non fiction, BouMa, a womans' magazine of generation gap has also been produced by the production house. A short film Who Am I. Ek Zindegi directed by Jeet is also a Bhavna Aaj O Kaal production.

She is into lot of social service activities; She is working for Thalasemik patients, Orphanages and other social organizations. As a whole Rituparna Sengupta is a blend of lot of things and she wants to make a significant mark in the industry as well as in the society as a complete personality.
